Seawind Catamarans will launch its new flagship vessel, the Seawind 1250, at the Melbourne International Boat Show and Lifestyle Festival at the city's Docklands early next month.
Fresh from its sea trials, the new ocean going catamaran embodies the 27 years of multihull experience complied by the country's largest sailboat builder. The Wollongong-based company sailed the Seawind 1250 from its home port to Port Phillip Bay during the past few weeks.
As an ocean-going catamaran aimed at those adventurous yachties who want to explore more than the local bays and harbours, the Seawind 1250 combines high-level engineering, quality finishes and sparkling performance.
The fibreglass hull has been produced in a new facility at Wollongong using the latest in climate-controlled resin infused lamination. This gives the yacht the superior fibreglass quality and strength that is essential for a blue water cruiser.
The Seawind 1250 shares much of its design with the highly acclaimed Seawind 1160, including tri-folding doors to open the saloon to the cockpit, generous open spaces and a saloon table that converts into either a coffee table of a bed.
But it is longer and has a wider beam, more head room and a larger mast, sails, fuel tanks and more storage lockers. There is also a new twin helm arrangement with excellent weather protection.
Other improvements include a wider targa catwalk for extra solar panels, bow seats, larger trampolines, an open bottom transom step to aid boarding from dinghies, larger optional motors and an optional galley-up layout.
The first eight boats in the production line have already been sold.
The Melbourne International Boat Show and Lifestyle Festival will run from Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7 between 10am and 6pm.
