Sea Ray Sundancer 270
Company founder CN Ray launched the first Sea Ray fibreglass runabout in 1959. The Detroit (US)-based company now produces dozens of motoryachts and sportscruiser models from 16-63ft and is one of the largest manufacturers of recreational craft in the worWith 40 years of boatbuilding under its belt, Sea Ray has continued to grow from strength to strength, launching 10 new models for the 1998 model year.
One of these was the 270 Sundancer - one of 12 models of Sundancer sportscruisers.
The 27ft Sundancer hull was all new in 1998 and with a bolt-on swim platform fitted, has an overall length of 9.09m. The beam measures 2.79m. Also available is the Special Edition 270 Sundancer - a smaller model measuring 8.33 by 2.59m, built for its trailerable status in the US.
The 270 Sundancer accommodates six adults and is optioned with a range of home-style comforts in a variety of interior layouts.
The large cockpit is a central feature of the design and seats a group of eight. There's an adjustable double helm seat with integrated aft-facing passenger seat, a foldaway bench seat located aft and a portside lounge - ideal for those of us who enjoy sunning or snoozing the afternoon away.
The optional cockpit table is designed for an al fresco dining experience and when topped with an optional filler cushion, it quickly converts to a large sun pad.
Below deck is the saloon, galley, and accommodation for four in a double aft cabin and two V-berths that can be used as a dinette during the day and sleeping quarters at night.
The enclosed stand-up en suite includes a portable head with dockside pump-out, vanity with sink, medicine cabinet and shower. There's a screened port light as well as a power vent to provide ventilation.
Max Sutherland from Sports Marine says that the 270 Sundancer has a top speed of around 37kt and cruises at around 23kt, when powered by a 300hp 7.4L MPI MerCruiser Bravo II sterndrive combination.
The standard Sunbrella canvas includes a bimini top, boot and vertical top storage.
