Sea Ray has tapped into the world’s largest electronics showcase to launch a new-generation boat that taps cutting-edge battery power so it relies less on fossil fuels.
The new Sea Ray SLX-R 400e Outboard amps up the design elements of the SLX 400 bowrider on which it is based, straps on a brace of three new-generation Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines, and introduces new technology that one day will feature on other Sea Ray models.
The boat was launched in the wake of the sales success of the special-edition Sea ray SLX-R 350 Outboard.
“CES presents a unique opportunity to debut the new SLX-R 400e in front of an audience that will truly appreciate its beauty, capabilities and incredible suite of new technologies,” Sea Ray president Steve Langlais said on the opening day of the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in the US.
“This pioneering new model, which will be available in 2020, showcases the kind of unique, advanced technologies that are worthy of the world’s largest consumer electronics show.”
The boat is the first of its kind for Sea Ray’s parent company, Brunswick, combining the luxury of the Sea Ray brand, the power of Mercury Racing’s supercharged outboards, and an all-new Fathom e-Power System – described as an eco-friendly alternative to a fuel-powered generator system.
“The Fathom e-Power System includes marine-grade lithium ion batteries and an intuitive user interface, giving the boater power management at their fingertips,” Sea Ray said.
Brunswick also displayed a concept helm that features gesture and voice recognition, and an enhanced user interface. This includes Dual Digital Dash NSO evo3 16-inch displays, state-of-the-art Simrad systems, and a Fusion Apollo RA770 marine audio system with a touchscreen display.
Cosmetic enhancements made to the 22-passenger showboat include special-edition Shadow metallic gel paint, superior quality upholstery with contrast stitching, red underwater lighting and red accent lighting throughout the vessel.
Below deck, a generous cabin that sleeps four creates a comfortable space to escape the elements, relax or spend the night.
