Sea Pen said the 'gate' units are a little less automated than its standard pen, however, they still incorporate the same technology utilising the same skin, rope mat and pump assembly.
The skin of the Sea Pen does not attract barnacle growth and can wrap around complex shapes, such as strendrive legs, said the company.
The rope mat is crucial to the boat remaining dry, said Sea Pen, it creates an air void between the hull of the boat and the outside skin of the pen, and allows for the water to drain down to the bilge of the pen where the pump is positioned.
Sea Pen said the pump expels the water from the pen at a rate of 550lt per minute and a 7.5m pen will be dry in 20 minutes. The pump is regulated by a water sensor in the base of the pen. Any rain or wash that gets into the pen is automatically detected by the sensor and pumped out.
The gate unit operates with a simple lever on the side of the pen to lower the entire back section (gate) of the pen that’s hinged either side. It is very simple but very effective, said Sea Pen.
At the end of the day, Sea Pen says simply drive the boat back into the pen, close the gate, turn it on and walk away. It will turn itself off when the boat is dry.
Sea Pen makes the gate units from 6m to 8.5m, accommodating most trailerboats, and the company said the pens retail for a similar price to a good quality trailer.
