Sea Patrol casts Suzuki

With Series Two of the Australian drama Sea Patrol II: The Coup well underway, vessel captains and drivers of the show are singing the praises of Suzuki outboards, said The Haines Group

The Haines Group, through its Suzuki Marine arm, is the exclusive supplier to the show and the Australian distributor of Suzuki outboards.

As the HMAS Hammersley heads into the troubled waters surrounding the Australian coast, it will come face-to-face with a series of vessels partnered with technologically advanced Suzuki outboard motors, said the distributor.

Suzuki Marine said it provided Sea Patrol II producers with eight outboards  to be used for the filming of the show, ranging from a DF4S to a DF115TL.

While some of the vessels may have looked more authentic with an old, noisy and smoky two-stroke, the need for performance and reliability (and hearing the actors above the engine noise) were more important, said Suzuki Marine.

According to Sea Patrol II vessel driver, John Schmidt, the motors speak for themselves when it comes to results and action in the water, said the distributor.

Schmidt's 7-metre barge was hired for use in the recent series and he couldn't be happier with the way it performed, said Suzuki Marine.

"The barge has a Suzuki DF90 four-stroke engine and as a survey vessel, can carry up to 11 people," said Schmidt.

"I can travel at 28 knots with only myself on board and only lose six knots of speed when at full capacity with 11 people.

"The engine is just so quiet and the smoothness, both at idle and revs, is extraordinary," Schmidt said.

Haines Suzuki Marine general manager, Greg Haines, said he was not surprised with the success of the motors used in Sea Patrol II, attributing its popularity to more advanced technological innovations than any other outboard manufacturer.

"Suzuki now offers the most extensive line-up of clean and efficient four-stroke outboard motors that provide boaters with the best combination of performance, ease of use and value," said Haines.

"For example, Suzuki's compact powerhead and offset driveshaft make the DF90 the smallest and lightest outboard in the 90-horsepower category.

"We understood the importance placed on the role of the motors by Sea Patrol II producers and were confident Suzuki could do the job and do it with ease," Haines said.

You can catch all the politics on the high seas by tuning in to Sea Patrol II: The Coup at 8.30pm Mondays on Channel 9.
