Sea Fox 368 Commander 2025 Review

The Sea Fox 368 Commander is a superbly outfitted offshore fishing boat, day cruiser and family entertainer

With its high bows, Carolina flare and sweeping deck-line, the flagship of the US Sea Fox boat range, the Sea Fox 368 Commander, cuts a fine figure on the water, commanding your attention and admiration. And with triple Mercury 400hp Verado V10 outboards out back, it also delivers exhilarating, eye-opening performance.

Overview

North Carolina’s Sea Fox Boats is a leading US manufacturer of fibreglass centre-console fishing boats and dual-console bowriders.

Most models are designed as cross-over boats so they are suitable for family boating and day cruising – as well as hard-core fishing.

This is certainly true of the Commander centre-console boats, which have reconfigurable seating areas at the bow and stern, along with lots of storage and move-about space.

For this review, Sea Fox Boats Australia invited us to test a 368 Commander paired with triple V10 Mercury 400hp outboards.

Price and equipment

The Sea Fox 368 Commander is a big boat with a million-dollar-plus price tag.

That’s a lot of coin for most of us, but it actually represents very good value for a full-featured, go-anywhere craft in the 11m size range.

‘Full-featured’ is an understatement, actually – as the 368 Commander is fully loaded.

Among the standard inclusions is the fibreglass composite construction (foam-filled stringers, resin-infused hull lamination process, composite-cored transom), along with cool fishing features such as the twin 190L pressured live wells, dual transom fridge/freezers, four sub-floor kill tanks, bow and stern seating areas, console cabin with double bed and electric toilet, triple helm seats, Ultima hardtop, twin Garmin GPSMap 9222 displays, and lots more.

Here in Australia, package pricing for the 368 Commander starts at $1,115,438 when the boat is rigged with dual Yamaha XFO 450 XTO Offshore 450hp ultra-longshaft (30-inch) outboards.

Our test boat was upgraded, with the twin Yamahas being swapped out for triple Mercury V10 400hp outboards, along with Mercury’s Skyhook joystick control system and autopilot.

The test rig also gained Platinum upholstery with matching faux teak, a pair of Grand Slam outriggers, an Icom VHF marine radio, inshore and offshore safety gear, full boat cover, and propellers for the triple Mercury outboards.

Interestingly, the test boat was also factory pre-rigged to accept a Sea Keeper gyro stabiliser, as well as a generator and an air conditioner, although those items were not fitted.

With the above options and upgrades, the Sea Fox 368 Commander is priced at $1,157,607.

Design and layout

The 368 Commander has a similar centre-console layout to the smaller models – albeit upscaled so that everything is bigger and more spacious.

The centre-console helm station is wide enough, for example, to accept three deluxe helm chairs abreast, while the aft cockpit and bow seating/lounging areas are positively huge.

The console is also big enough to incorporate a deep-set cabin located a few steps down into the hull, complete with a double bed, storage space, electric head with wash basin, and full access to the ship’s switchboard, electrical systems and wiring behind the helm.

Overhead, on the deck directly above the cabin berth, there is a double chaise lounge with armrests.

A few steps further forward is the moulded V-shaped bow seating area that is complete with removable cushions, comfy backrest cushions, and storage lockers with gas-assist opening struts.

Other bow features include an electrically operated, height-adjustable cocktail table/infill board, as well as an array of rod holders, cup holders, charging ports (and wireless phone charger), recessed grab rails, and an enclosed anchor locker with electric winch right up on the forepeak.

The front seating area also converts into an elevated fishing deck with the cushions removed.

At the helm

The three-person-wide centre-console helm station is beautifully laid out with the huge fascia panel angled in toward the skipper to provide the best view of the two included Garmin GPSMap 9222 displays.

A third, smaller Garmin 943XSV is also included, mounted in a panel built into the Ultima hardtop for viewing by the cockpit crew.

Above the helm fascia there is a soft-touch dash with built-in compass, beneath a three-piece toughened glass windscreen enclosure with an electrically operated air vent.

The stainless steel, tilt-adjust steering wheel is centrally located with the binnacle throttle and joystick control alongside to starboard – all within a comfortable reach of the skipper seated in the centre of the three bolstered helm chairs.

Overhead the Ultima hardtop delivers shelter from the sun and provides a base for the aforementioned smaller Garmin display, along with spreader lights, Icom VHF marine radio and JL stereo radio head units and speakers, dual wireless phone chargers, aft rocket-launcher rod rack, electric cockpit sun-shade, and more.

Fisherman’s dream

The self-draining aft cockpit is huge, uncluttered and simply ideal for offshore sport and game fishing.

The rear deck stretches 1.45m behind the helm seat box and rigging station back to the full width transom wall, which has a 190L pressured live well built into each side of the boat, separated by two big fridge/freezers.

There’s also a fold-out two-person transom bench seat, four sub-floor fish boxes, starboard side coaming rod rack and toe-rail, port-side entry/dive door (with in-floor fold out swim ladder), fresh and raw water wash down, wide side coamings with padded bolsters, blue mood lighting, a total of 26 stainless steel rod holders, and a sub-floor mechanical room/storage space.

The rigging station behind the helm console also has everything you need for offshore fishing – including multiple tackle storage cupboards, drawers and racks, a sink/baitboard/rigging table, pull-out freshwater shower rose, a slide-out Yeti 60L cooler, and a pair of aft-facing crew seats.

On the water

The Sea Fox 368 Commander is a big, burly, beast of a boat with near go-anywhere sea keeping capabilities.

With its high bows and pronounced Carolina flare, the big Commander just knifes through big waves, parting them and pushing the spray cleanly away from the boat to keep the crew dry.

Throughout our sea trial offshore from the Gold Coast, the 368 Commander proved to be smooth riding, stable (3.35m beam), easy to drive, and responsive to trim from the triple Mercury outboards as well as the trim tab system.

Our test boat was very fast too, recording a top speed of 55.0 knots (101.7km/h) at 6340rpm.

Trimmed out, with ideal sea conditions and low fuel, the Commander can apparently stretch out to 58 knots (107km/h.). Now that’s fast.

Do you need that kind of speed? No – but it does make the Commander great fun to drive.

To be honest though, I think I would be more than happy with the standard power option – twin Yamaha 450hp V8 outboards – for a top speed in the 45 to 47 knot range.

Verdict

The Sea Fox 368 Commander is a superb offshore sport fishing centre console which doubles easily as a fast day cruiser and overnighter for a couple.

This big Sea Fox is also sturdily built and packed with standard features. It pretty much comes with everything you need to get straight out on the water, including a high-end Garmin electronics suite and lots of gear that rival brands list as options.
