Sea-Doo parent company BRP is marking its 15-year partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) by making another huge donation.
The Canadian manufacturer has supported SLSA over the years through its Sea-Doo and Can-Am brands, helping to save countless lives in Australian waters.
Now BRP is set to provide SLSA with an additional 5000 lifejackets worth more than $1 million. These will be distributed around the country to assist the organisation with improving costal safety.
The generous donation continues the strong partnership with SLSA, which has seen BRP provide the volunteer organisation with more than $10 million worth of equipment to clubs, branches, and state and territory bodies around the country. Most of the donations have been made possible through BRP’s annual Equipment Grants program.
Sea-Doo provides SLSA with a responsive rescue watercraft (RWC), which has become a key tool in patrolling Australian coastlines and accessing difficult-to-reach locations.
It’s estimated that the Sea-Doo RWCs have been involved in more than 23,000 rescues over the years, and last season accounted for one in five rescues.
Can-Am also provides side-by-side vehicles for SLSA to patrol long stretches of beach.
“BRP continues to be a major contributor to coastal safety around the country,” said SLSA CEO Adam Weir. “Surf Life Saving exists to save lives, create great Australians, and build better communities. The support of BRP helps us to achieve our mission.”
SLSA covers more than 12,000 beaches and 52,000km of coastline, while making an estimated 10,275 rescues annually. It claims to be the world's largest volunteer movement of its kind, with more than 198,000 members and 315 affiliate clubs.
