Sydney inventor develops 'sea scooper' to improve boat rescue safety

Inventor Dr Bob Wright is a passionate sailor and every year sets sail from Sydney to circumnavigate Tasmania for two months in his beautiful 48-foot Buizen sloop. Knowing first-hand the perils of Bass Strait and the seriousness of a MOB emergency, Bob set about to develop a better way to bring someone back on board with minimal physical effort for the rescuer and the 'floater' and arrived at the Sea Scooper.

These are a range of rescue slings designed for power, sail and RIBs. The Sea Scooper RIB sling has particular application for the military and surf rescue, and provides a quick way to get a fully kitted navy or unconscious surfer or diver back on board.

Dr Wright showed his Australian-made Sea Scoopers on the ABC's Inventors program and when not sailing or inventing, he is the director of Intensive Care at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.

The Yacht Sea Scoopa has a recommended retail price of $3160 (plus GST) while the Inflatable Boat Sea Scoopa costs $2920 (plus GST).
