SBM 'Mini Boat Show'

Plenty to see for free at The Spit

There was nothing middle-of-the-road about the boats at the SBM Middle Harbour Boat Show last weekend. From 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m, some of the finest boats in the world from 15-75 feet, both power and sail, were on display.

With craft from the USA, Europe, Asia, and the cream of Australian manufacturers, over $20 million worth of boats were opened to the public, accompanied by a full complement of support services such as finance and insurance. There was even a free sausage sizzle all weekend.

Organisers say that while the show was run just a week before the 2012 Sydney International Boat Show, the major appeal is the relaxed, fun atmosphere, without the crowds.

There was the chance to see many of the boats that will be at the Sydney International Boat Show opening this thursday. Powerboat brands from SBM were Maritimo and Mustang, and from Ensign Ship Brokers, Bavaria. The collection of used sail boats from Yoti included Hanse, Moody and Dehler.

Smiths Boat Shed and SBM Premium Service participated, along with Club Marine Insurance and Twin Disc. All the crews from the various dealerships were on hand to answer questions, conduct on-board inspections and arrange for on-water tests.
