Savage launched its latest range for this season at a media event on the Gold Coast yesterday (October 1) with the theme ‘Oldest Brand, Newest Boats.’
Included in the launch was the new Scorpion range of fishing boats which will take over from the Piranha range. Also launched was an all-new cuddy cabin designed as an entry-level boat to take engines up to 150hp.
Director of sales and marketing Damien Duncan said there were numerous reasons for the new launches.
"We wanted to re-invigorate the Savage range," he said. “We also wanted to become more competitive in the marketplace and offer our customers better value and the standard features that they want, while still being able to customise the boats to their specific requirements."
Hot out of the Coomera factory was the Scorpion range of small fishing boats comprising the 435 Scorpion available in tiller-steer or side console, the 455 Scorpion (TS, SC or CC), the 485 Scorpion (SC, CC) and the 485 Scorpion Pro (SC, CC). These boats take the place of the Piranha range which will now be deleted.
Items deleted from the range to enhance the value equation include the forward thruster plate (now an option), paint, checker-plate foredeck and the rod locker.
The main difference between the Scorpion and the Scorpion Pro is that the Pro has a pod-style transom with swim platforms either side of the engine and grab rails which provide easy access from the water – perfect for spearos and divers.
Prices for the Scorpion range start at around $20K while the Scorpion Pro will set you back around $28K in standard form with a 115hp Evinrude E-TEC on the back.
"The cabin boat is the one we will sell the most of," Mr Duncan told boatsales.com.au and BoatPoint.com.au.
"Entry-level cabin boats are what’s selling at the moment, especially in markets such as South Australia and Victoria.
"Our dealers wanted a boat that takes up to a 150hp engine, and that’s what we developed for them with the 575 Blue Water," he added.
The overall length of the 575 is 5.90m with a beam of 2.32m. The boat features a big cockpit for its class, with a fold-up rear lounge which further increases the ‘fishability’ of the boat.
The 575 comes with a 95-litre under-floor fuel tank and rod holders but anglers can option-up the boat with burley bucket, live-bait tank, bimini, rocket launcher and heaps more from the extensive options list.
Powered by the 150 E-TEC, the 575 will give a genuine 40+ knots performance at wide open throttle and a 4000rpm cruise of around 30 knots.
A 575 Blue Water will cost around $48K with a 150hp E-TEC, Savage trailer, registration and safety gear.
We will be bringing you a full test of the 575 Blue Water in the coming days.
