Following on from its successful Centenary Trophy Regatta last year, Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC) in Melbourne will host the fifth annual Club Marine SYC Centenary Trophy Regatta on Saturday 18 April, on the waters of Port Phillip inviting all boating enthusiasts from around Victoria to participate.
The event will be run across several courses on Port Phillip, in the vicinity of SYC, with IRC and AMS yachts to get away first from 10.00am.
The Centenary Regatta will also include a few state titles including the Sydney 38 Victorian State titles which will run over both days of the weekend.
The regatta is designed so there is something to please everyone. As not everyone wants to race hard at the end of the season, the event will also be offering a pursuit-start race which will be a bit more laid-back to include cruisers and a non-spinnaker division.
Mal Billings, Club Captain Recreational Boating at SYC, will be adding something more casual and relaxing for members and guests (power and sail) in the style of a family-friendly boating rally.
After the serious on-water stuff is done, there will be a presentation for each class/division at the Club, where refreshments and a barbecue will be available, giving competitors the opportunity to discuss where they went right and wrong over the course of the day. The barbecue will be held on the Northern Podium.
"It'll be a great day for all the family," said Billings. "And sailors of all ages can grab a sausage and a refreshing drink before the presentations at 5.30pm. Then the infamous Ronstan Band will be playing in the Harbour View Restaurant from 6.00pm."
