Adelaide-based fibreglass trailer boat maker Northbank Marine is under new management after the business was sold to one of the company’s brand ambassadors.
The deal, settled last month, will see former brand ambassador and Northbank boat owner Andrew Harris take over the business, with the business’s founder, Rob Cuming, staying with the Northbank as part of a 12-month handover.
Harris had joined the brand as an ambassador 18 months before making the decision to buy the business.

The sale also brings in a change of name for the company, with Northbank Marine – the boat sales business set up by Cuming before deciding he also wanted to build boats – to now be known as Northbank Boats.
Cuming will maintain his connection with SA-based Northbank, Stabicraft and Savage dealer Christies Beach Marine, and Dandenong-based Northbank and Stacer dealer Melbourne Marine Centre.
Northbank currently builds a range of trailerable fibreglass runabout, cuddy, walkaround and hardtop models ranging from the 5.3-metre length overall 500 Cuddy up to the flagship 7.8-metre length overall 750 Hard Top.
The larger boats, with hulls designed specifically to tackle South Australia’s short, sharp chop, are built tough, featuring seven bearers and foam-filled closed-cell foam filling.
The business was established at Port Adelaide in 1996, moving to the industrial suburb of Lonsdale in 2005.
According to Cuming, Harris will release new models to the Northbank range in 2024.
