Planning Minister, Frank Sartor, and Waterways Minister, Joe Tripodi, made announcements regarding Rozelle Bay that included a scaled back development to address some community concerns, that provided for proper on-water management initiatives for all waterways users, and that is in line with the government's Sharing Sydney Harbour initiative.
The approved development on James Craig Road will provide storage for 670 boats and includes a commercial maritime building, car parking for 272 vehicles, and a marina for brokerage and temporary berths.
Roy Privett, general manager BIA said: "There is no doubt our industry and recreational boat users desperately require this type of infrastructure.
"The BIA welcomes the approval of this state of the art facility. It has the support of our members and, we believe, the majority of recreational boaters," he said.
The Sydney Boathouse development in Rozelle Bay is a "win win" for industry, government and general public, said BIA.
This development, said BIA, will provide improved access and amenities for the local community and that of the greater Sydney metro area, with the project also encouraging investment, employment, access to tourism, plus environmental improvement for Rozelle Bay.
