Ronstan Managing Director and self-confessed Tasar tragic, Alastair Murray, has received the first annual U.S. Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award.
The award was presented at the 45th United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland recently.
Murray was recognised for his many contributions to the sailing industry and his ability to blend the sport of sailing with business.
Originally from Melbourne, Murray has worked for the deck hardware firm since 1976 and moved to America twice throughout his 40-year career with Ronstan, once in 1980 to set up a warehouse for the company's exports, and again in 1992. During the four years he stayed Stateside the second time he firmly established the company's presence there when he signed a deal with West Marine, a chandlery company with over 400 stores throughout the US and Canada.
Murray has served on the board of Sail America and founded the International Sailing Summit. Over the years he has received many honours, including the Centenary Medal, Australian Export Hero, 1999 and 2002, Marine Industry Achiever, and the Governor of Victoria Export Award.
The latest award is intended to honour a recipient who has distinguished him or herself through continued and unselfish service to the overall advancement of the sailing industry.
For many years Murray has been a competitor and event sponsor of the Tasar Championships.
