"I've owned two Rivieras before," explained Maybury, who was CEO of the Dreamworld theme park for nine years.
"We used them simply for day trips and brief weekenders. Now I want a boat for more extended cruising with my family and grandchildren," he said.
The Riviera 45, with its distinctive moulded staircase leading from cockpit to flybridge, was an ideal choice, he said.
The new model has already proved an outstanding success for Australia's largest builder of luxury boats according to Tim Sayer, Riviera's managing director - retail.
Since the boat's world launch at the Sanctuary Cove show, Riviera has taken orders for 11 Riviera 45s as well as 17 for the company's other new boat, the Riviera 41 Open Flybridge, launched in March.
Sales of these new boats amount to nearly $25 million, said Sayer.
Maybury was attracted to the boat by its interior layout of three cabins and two bathrooms as well as the external staircase.
"The staircase is a lot easier than the traditional ladder," said Maybury.
"We looked at a lot of boats before selecting the Riviera 45.
"I feel very comfortable with the Riviera brand and this boat is ideal for my boating lifestyle. I plan to do a lot more cruising, up to Hervey Bay and even to the Whitsundays," Maybury said.
Maybury has been a powerful figure in south-east Queensland events for more than 20 years. He was involved in the 1988 World Expo held in Brisbane, he helped to bring Indy Car racing to the Gold Coast and he ran the Queensland Events Corporation for some time.
Today, he is consulting with the European financial group ING on the construction and management of the giant observation wheel in Melbourne. The 120m tall wheel, being built at Docklands, is set to rival the 130m London Eye Ferris wheel.
According to Sayer: "The company's success with its new flybridge models is a reflection of the quality work of our New Product Development team in designing boats that exceed market expectations.
"Our production teams have also excelled in delivering the high quality finish to our boats," he said.
