Riviera reveals its new 4800 Sport Yacht

All-new Sport Yacht with Volvo Penta IPS to be launched at 2016 Sydney boat show

Riviera has revealed it has an elegant new 4800 Sport Yacht that is well into production and on schedule to launch at the 2016 Sydney International Boat Show opening July 28-August 1

Built its 14-hectare Gold Coast yard, the impressive new 4800 Sport Yacht has been designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of boating enthusiasts and, we forecast, attract new blood to the Riv' fold.

Despite its contemporary Sport Yacht designation, there are the hallmarks of a thoroughbred Riv' including solid hull, bluewater performance, walkaround decks and large functional cockpit, Riviera said at its reveal.

There is also that signature Volvo Penta synergy that Riviera is embracing today. This new 4800 SY  has something else again from Volvo Penta — the all-new 660hp IPS800 based on a 7.7lt D8 common-rail engine delivering said horsepower at 3000rpm.

The new 4800 SY will also have a full Glass Screen navigation and control system, joystick docking, Dynamic Positioning System (a virtual GPS anchor), autopilot and the new (limited by location only) Volvo Penta-backed five-year warranty from wheel nut to prop nut as standard.

SUCCESS PAVED ITS WAY
Given the success of the 5000 SY nee 4700 SY, which accounted for 156 sales between them, and the 4400 SY which is still in production but smaller, the new 4800 Sport Yacht has success paved its way.

Riviera chief executive Wes Moxey said the new Sport Yacht takes external design cues from the Riviera 6000 and the new 5400 tested here in the SY range, for which there is extremely strong worldwide demand.

The 5400 SY has already accounted for 32 sales and the 6000 SY has never fallen out of favour since being launched in 2014 off the back of the 5800 SY circa 2009.

"The 4800 has all the Riviera Sport Yacht hallmarks – sleek styling, leisurely single-level living and entertaining features, premium levels of luxury and superb sea-keeping capabilities – embedded deeply in her DNA," Riviera CEO Wes Moxey said.

We should also add that the popular two staterooms and two bathroom layout on this new Sport Yacht model is bound to be warmly received.

VOLVO PENTA PAIRING
Historically a popular model number for Riviera, the 4800 Sport Yacht will feature Riviera’s signature clean and
thoughtfully laid-out engine room with acoustic and thermal insulation.

"The Volvo Penta diesel engines and IPS
pod-drives are set wide apart for responsive steering and stability.
This drive package offers spirited performance and fuel-efficient
cruising economy," Mr Moxey said.

But Riviera has introduced a new hull designed to mate with the Volvo Penta IPS. The boat has 12 degrees of deadrise at the transom and rakish lines.

"Owners will enjoy Riviera’s spirited performance, as well as all the benefits of IPS, including joystick manoeuvrability. Then there is the innovative Glass Cockpit navigation and systems monitoring features that make boating today, with Riviera, even easier and more enjoyable," Mr Moxey added.

The sports-inspired
helm and dash house the latest Volvo Penta/Garmin
Glass Cockpit navigation and systems monitoring matrix with two
12-inch multifunction displays. Within easy reach of the twin deluxe helm chairs –
which each have folding arm and foot rests – is the premium
leather-upholstered steering wheel, electronic engine controls and IPS
joystick for easy docking.

"The Glass Cockpit technology
integrates with the Electronic Vessel Control (EVC)
features that include Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) for
station-holding while preparing lines or fenders, or while waiting of a
fuel jetty, as well as the convenience of Auto Guidance that searches
through all relevant charts to create a route you can follow, avoiding
shallow water, navigational markers and other obstacles. Coupled with
the autopilot, it not only shows you the way, it can also take you
there," Mr Moxey said.

The 4800 SY will also boast the next generation of CZone
digital switching and monitoring system, with a 10-inch control panel
right at hand so owners can, at the touch of the screen, select from
cruising and entertaining modes, dock unattended mode or full systems
shutdown.

The new boat has also been designed for user friendliness and ease of operation and Riviera says it has maximised visibility through its curved glass windscreen
featuring pantographic wipers and washers that are plumbed off the freshwater system.

TICKING THE DESIGN BOXES
The contemporary hull has windows and portholes that are recessed for added protection, as well as a sporty targa arch and hydraulic boarding platform as standard. The tender garage can house a 2.7-metre 'ducky'.

Above the garage is a true entertainer’s amenities centre with covered barbecue, stainless steel splash-back and convenient LED lighting.

Designed for the alfresco lifestyle popular with Riviera boat owners, the cockpit maximises storage, there’s an optional folding teak table to connect both lounges, and a wet bar with solid surface bench-top, refrigeration, ice-maker and sink with hot and cold water.

On both sides of the 4800 Sport Yacht, steps lead to the wide walk-around side decks, which feature raised bulwarks and full-length bow rails for safe access to the forward deck.

Like the 5400 SY, the foredeck incorporates an additional onboard entertainment zone with speakers under the windscreen brow, a double sun-pad with adjustable back rests and convenient drink-holders. All deck hardware is crafted from marine-grade 316 stainless steel.

INDOOR LIVING
Mr Moxey said the new 4800 SY will set the bar for Sport Yacht design courtesy of her interior spaciousness, premium comfort and practical lifestyle features.

As with most Rivs, the rear bulkhead is tempered glass and incorporates a sliding glass door set in a strong marine-grade stainless steel frame. A large awning window opens out from the spacious saloon to the cockpit, creating seamless indoor/outdoor living.

The modern aft galley – set to port to ensure the free flow of traffic through the saloon – features premium appliances, including dual stainless steel refrigeration drawers and a drawer freezer. The hand-crafted cabinetry offers excellent storage and features positive locking hardware, just like a Boeing.

The cocktail cabinet features a lift-up lid, revealing bottle storage and drawers for glasses, while an elevated, leather-upholstered, C-shaped lounge provides excellent visibility forward and through the wide side windows. Up to six adults can be seated around the large, fixed dinette table, says Riviera.

The saloon has side windows for cross ventilation and an electric sunroof for additional light and fresh air.

ACCOMMODATION PLAN
The 4800’s flexible accommodation means owners gain a bonus atrium and lower lounge area that can comfortably seat up to five adults. The area has been designed as an ideal teenager’s retreat, games centre … or even a quiet work space. At night, it can also provide impromptu sleeping for an extra guest.

The master stateroom is forward with a queen-sized walk-around bed with innerspring mattress and volumes of storage underneath, with drawers and gas struts for easy access. Additional storage cabinets, a cedar-lined hanging locker and private en suite are features.

The VIP guest stateroom is aft or actually amidships in the 4800 SY, with full headroom at its entry, three adult-sized single beds, and the option of sliding together the two port-side beds to create a double. There are both fixed and opening portlights, while the communal second head features a linen with space for an optional washer-dryer.

FIVE YEAR WARRANTY
Just as impressively, Riviera also announced a new five-year limited warranty on all Volvo Penta-branded systems, including Glass Cockpit navigation electronics, propellers, drive-lines and engines.

Volvo Penta’s IPS technology includes a highly efficient Anti-Corrosion Protection (ACO) unit mounted to the transom to reduce the maintenance of sacrificial anodes, Riv reminded us.

Additionally, the 4800 Sport Yacht’s propellers will be protected by the premium anti-foul coating Propspeed to achieve a long service life, as well as stainless steel line-cutters from Volvo Penta for protection from fishing lines, plastic bags or nets.

Mr Moxey said the Riviera team was looking forward to showcasing the comprehensive features of the 4800 Sport Yacht when Riviera rolls out the red carpet for Sydney International Boat Show at the end of July.

"Riviera has a rich 36-year heritage enhancing the fun and fulfillment of our global family of discerning luxury motor yacht owners and the 4800 Sport Yacht reflects how we are continuing to make boating with Riviera such a rewarding experience," he said. More at www.riviera.com.au.
