Riviera 64 SMY takes form ahead of Sanctuary Cove reveal

The star of Riviera's 40th-anniversary Sanctuary Cove display is ready for production

Riviera has teased the all-new Riviera 64 Sports Motor Yacht that will take pride of place at the 2020 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May.

The new model, shaping up to take centre stage in the Gold Coast-based boat-builder’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, has reached the final step in its development process before production of the newest member of the Sports Motor Yacht line-up can officially kick off.

“Riviera yacht development manager Dave Higgins, along with a highly experienced team of 50 master boat builders, designers and engineers, have recently reached further production milestones,” Riviera said in a post on social media.

“With great pride, Dave has confirmed the internal liner is now finished, along with all of the plug works, rendering them to a mirror finish.

“We have also produced moulds for the headliner, and have now released the headliner and deck plug from the deck mould, making the boat officially ready for production,” it said.

“Now laminating the deck and headliner for hull No.1 is underway whilst the hull is in engineering.”

Riviera now has 11 weeks ahead of it in which to get hull No.1 ready for the show.

Once completed, it will join the larger 68 and 72 Sports Motor Yacht long-range blue water cruiser models in the growing Riviera line-up.

Riviera says it teamed with Netherlands-based Mulder Design – the architects behind some of the world’s fastest superyachts – to help shape a hull on the 64 Sports Motor Yacht that is capable of handling open oceans, yet provide a soft, dry and comfortable ride.

“Conceived and built in-house to our exacting standards on Australia’s Gold Coast, this beautiful new series of sports motor yachts was inspired by a wishlist from our global family of experienced Riviera owners seeking to strike out further for longer to celebrate true long-range luxury cruising the Riviera way,” it said.

“Now you and your loved ones can escape the everyday with the most alluring ports within your reach.”

Helping meet that promise are Sports Motor Yacht hallmarks of big fuel tanks and burly engines; the Riviera 64 SMY will come with 6500 litres of fuel capacity feeding twin 1300hp MAN V8s as standard.

The Riviera 64 Sports Motor Yacht will come with four staterooms – aft full-beam master suite, forward VIP suite, side-by-side singles that slide together to form a double at the push of a button, and Pullman-style singles – and either a crew cabin or utility room depending on the owners’ needs.

Another option available to owners is a three-stateroom “Presidential” layout that increases the size of the master bathroom.

The motor yacht will come with a forward bow lounge area shaped to take a tender and davit, and a huge aft cockpit space that opens up onto a large swim deck – an ideal space for fishing.

There is no helm in the pilot door-equipped saloon space, and instead the skipper steers from a wide and spacious dual-seat helm station built into the port side of the enclosed flybridge and accessed via an enclosed companionway.

The flybridge includes an outside entertainment space.

The 2020 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show runs from May 21-24.
