Restore Accountability Rally

Today at Parliament House, Sydney

Reverend Fred Nile and fellow Parliamentary members will speak today to a rally of staff and supporters at the gates of Parliament House demanding NSW
Premier Barry O'Farrell act on the recommendations of the Inquiry and stop the closure of the iconic Cronulla Fisheries Research Centre of Excellence.

On October 23, the Select Committee on Cronulla Fisheries tabled a damning report into the decision to close the iconic fisheries research centre. Citing a litany of failures in planning and management of the proposed closure. The Committee concluded that: "The closure of the Cronulla Fisheries Research Centre of Excellence has been an example of how not to undertake decentralisation.”

A stern Committee Chair Reverend Fred Nile, obviously upset by Minister Hodgkinson’s treatment of his Inquiry, said in his 30 years in Parliament he had “never seen a matter so badly handled from day one…It broke almost every rule in the book…I suggest to the government they should print a manual on how they conducted this issue and give it to public servants and say this is how you do not do it".

The bi-partisan committee recommended that the decision be reversed. Only the National member of the Committee filed a dissenting report. However, so far the department has ignored the report and continued with the destruction of the centre and the loss of the specialised scientists and managers that are vital to the management of NSW’s billion-dollar-a-year wild fisheries.

All are invited to join in for what promises to be a unique and fiery display of bipartisan support for this test case for the O’Farrell’s government’s contract with NSW to “Restore Accountability”.

What: Opportunity to film/photograph a bi-partisan group of Parliamentary Members and supporters calling on the Premier to stop the closure of the Cronulla Fisheries, followed by a sustainable seafood BBQ.

When: 1pm, today, Wednesday 21 November, 2012

Where: Parliament of NSW, 6 Macquarie St Sydney NSW, 2000

Speakers: Inquiry Chair Hon Reverend Fred Nile, NSW Shadow Minister for Primary Industries Hon Steve Whan,
Greens LC Member Hon Cate Faehrmann, Sutherland Shire Councillor Phil Blight, Assistant General Secretary
