Rescue Laser ‘flares'

Battery-powered lasers could help in search and rescue says manufacturer

SOS Marine has released a nifty gadget that could help in marine rescues. It’s a laser light called the Rescue Laser which the company claims can be seen up to 32 kilometres away at night.

The lasers are battery powered and have a lens which is designed specifically search and rescue operations. Available in either green or red light, they are designed to stand out when pointed at those being rescued or those being searched for.

Manufacturers Greatland Laser reports that the market response to its handheld laser products has been positive: "We`ve worked hard to develop small, lightweight, robust and reliable products meeting the signalling needs of a wide range of military and civilian customers," said a spokesman for the company.

SOS Marine is an Australian company manufacturing safety and rescue equipment for defence forces and many maritime professionals worldwide.

The Rescue Laser Flares can be seen at Southern Seas Stand 716, Sydney International Boat Show from August 2-6.
