Mercury’s Diesel 3.0L 225hp and 265hp sterndrive marine engines sold between January 2, 2011, and October 31, 2013, have been recalled due to the risk that the oil line sealer washers may fail prematurely and the turbocharger load-distribution ring may fail prematurely.
The recall (PRA No.2017/16499) at Product Safety Australia states that the failure of the oil line sealer washers may result in an oil leak, which could cause engine damage and/or result in engine seizure.
Failure of the turbocharger load-distribution ring could result in engine failure and possibly an engine fire, the recall warns.
The full list of serial numbers for the recalled engines can be sourced from the recall.
Consumers should contact their nearest Mercury Marine dealer to arrange for the engine to be rectified. We'd expect this has likely occurred, but as the affected engines date back 7 years we are sharing this notice with our readers and many second-hand boat buyers.
The consumer should not use the engine until the rectification has been carried out.
The Mercury Diesel 3.0L 225hp and 265hp sterndrive marine engines were sold locally and internationally.
