Raymarine Axiom adds ePropulsion electric motor support

Raymarine Axiom users can now fully integrate an electric motor with their chartplotter

Electric engine specialist ePropulsion has announced it has worked with marine electronics specialist Raymarine to integrate its electric motors with Axiom chartplotters.

The move, announced as an industry first by ePropulsion, will allow users to “seamlessly display engine data from ePropulsion electric motors directly on Raymarine's Axiom displays, without needing additional gateways or interface boxes”.

“It further enhances the user experience, as a dynamic range ring overlays the chartplotter display, making it easier to visualise current cruising range and optimise energy consumption,” ePropulsion said.

ePropulsion had its all-new eLite electric motor, a 500-watt outboard designed to be the most compact in its class, on show at the 20234 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. It was developed to replace low-powered outboard engines, with a fully rechargeable electric battery integrated into the design.

The electric motors, which now use NMEA 2000 standards, are compatible with Axiom displays using the latest LightHouse 4.6 operating system that was updated to support electric motor PGN, the language that the electric motors use to send out data.

“The Axiom engine dashboard allows boaters to monitor the ePropulsion motor’s battery level, speed, gear and estimated range,” Raymarine said in a statement announcing the new technology.

“For additional simplicity, a dynamic range ring overlays on the chartplotter display, making it easy to visualise the current cruising range and optimise energy consumption.

“This new functionality is available on ePropulsion X-Series outboards and I-Series inboard motors and compatible Raymarine Axiom displays.”

ePropulsion chief executive Danny Tao said the electric outboard motor maker had worked hard to lead the industry in making electric propulsion more accessible.

“The engineering team at Raymarine have been so supportive in incorporating the vital data from our engines to give both of our customers a seamless and intuitive engine data display,” he said.

“We are very proud to work with Raymarine in this effort, and we know that the results will speak for themselves.”
