Rare one-off Porsche that handles like a boat comes up for sale

Well, a Porsche-designed catamaran superyacht, and it has an Australian connection

Ever wanted to won one of the world’s rarest, most expensive Porsches? The only problem is that instead of parking it at home in the garage, you’ll have to find a berth at the local marina for it.

The Cayman Islands-flagged 41.4-metre, the world’s only luxury catamaran superyacht with an interior designed by Porsche’s in-house stylists and an exterior built in Sweden in 2019 using the expertise of Australian multihull specialist Incat Crowther, is now up for sale in a silent auction for whatever price you want to bid.

It won’t be cheap, though, as in 2022 the former Monaco Yachting Festival showstopper was listed on the market for the eye-watering sum of €22,950,000 ($A37,500,000).

What do you get? According to the ad, the new owner will step aboard into an “expansive cabin which features a 10-seat dining table, three bars and open skylight for privacy, relax on the sundeck which features a large lounge area with jacuzzi, or enjoy the water with toys including water scooter, kneeboard, waterskis, kayaks, wakeboard, snorkelling set and two stand-up paddleboards”.

“The world’s only luxury catamaran superyacht created by Studio F.A. Porsche was developed with meticulous attention to detail and the pursuit of perfection in collaboration with Incat Crowther, Kockums, Imtech, Greenline and MTU,” the brochure accompanying the sale says.

“This futuristic 41-metre four-deck, 10-berth superyacht sets the standard for an unparalleled fusion of design, comfort, innovation and performance.”

Yep, this isn’t a boat you own for yourself. Below decks are five suites – a master and four guest accommodations –  as well as four crew cabins, another one for the chief engineer to look after the twin MTU 16V engines, each producing 4615hp, that turn the water jets that propel this craft, and another space to house the chief officer.

Cruising speed is a comfortable 10.0 knots to give a range of around 1200 nautical miles. If you want to go quick, Royal Falcon One’s top speed is rated at 37 knots – way better than the performance of a lot of other cruisers out there.

And because it uses water jets to propel the boat, the Royal Falcon One can escape the paparazzi and sneak into very shallow anchoarages – draft is a little less than 2.0 metres.

As well, you get an Italian-made 5.6-metre Castoldi 16S jet tender rated to carry seven people, a sundeck that includes a jacuzzi, three bars, and a survey certificate to allow the boat to safely range up to 150nm from a refuge.

There’s a bit of travel involved with the pick-up as the Royal Falcon One is moored in Genoa, Italy.

However, the airfare to go and pick up your new boat may be the cheapest thing about the whole experience.
