In order to provide the safest possible environment for participants and spectators alike, Special Event conditions and navigation restrictions will apply during the major activities of the RAN Intertantional Fleet Review, including exclusion zones, speed, wash and anchoring restrictions.
Some 37 warships enter the harbour tomorrow, 16 tall ships arrive today, and 8000 naval personnel from more than 20 nations will participate in the event. Not to mention the spectator craft.
This special event will commemorate the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy Fleet into Sydney Harbour. On that day, the flagship HMAS Australia led the new Australian fleet of seven cruisers and destroyers into the harbour for the first time.
A century later, the program for the International Fleet Review on Sydney Harbour will include a tall ships parade, warships arrival, ceremonial fleet review, naval gun salutes, aerial flypasts, a spectacular fireworks display and light show and open days for pre-purchased ticket holders on many of the ships.
There will be much for the public to see and enjoy on and around Sydney Harbour, especially during the busiest days of the program from Thursday October 3 to Monday 7 October, which is the Labour Day holiday weekend in NSW.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is responsible for planning, marking and enforcing the exclusion zones and coordinating spectator fleet management in collaboration with other marine agencies.
A bulletin has been produced to provide information about these restrictions to commercial vessel operators and other maritime stakeholders, to enable planning of marine business activities around this major event.
Detailed information will also soon be available here for recreational boaters and families planning to go afloat to see the International Fleet Review.
