Rainman extends 12V watermaker line-up

The Australian-designed and built portable watermakers now come in an expanded 12V range

Those clever Australian-design and manufacturer Rainman desalination systems and watermakers have expanded their offerings with a new 12V DC electric system. The new unit will be ideal for yachts, small cruisers and even trailerboats.

The new simple 12V watermaker complements its existing 230V and 115V AC systems and petrol-powered units. All are fully portable or they can be installed with a simple two-box set-up.

“Many of our potential customers have been requesting a lower power system to run with their solar/wind powered 12VDC systems,” Ron Schroeder, Director of Rainman Desalination, said.

The Sydney-based company has stuck to its product strategy and principles of creating desalination systems that are very simple, robust, and with an option for portability. This means avoiding unnecessary complexity of electronics, solenoid valves, or overly complicated pumps, it says.

In addition to keeping the initial price low, this ‘minimalist’ approach maximises system reliability and reduces the lifecycle cost of owning the watermaker over many years, Shroeder adds.

“After many discussions with cruisers and our own Rainman dealer network, we found a strong preference to keep the heart of the system as a simple plunger pump, which favours simplicity, reliability and cost over efficiency.

“With recent advances in solar, wind, and battery technologies, customers are not as concerned about squeezing every drop of fresh water out of each amp-hour as they are about maximum system reliability.”

The 12VDC pressure supply unit utilises the same external shell as the existing AC electric Rainman systems. It is compatible with the Rainman Compact or Economy reverse osmosis units.

The new DC watermaker will generate 26-34 litres per hour of fresh water, while consuming 32 Amps. This includes the integrated lift pump, which is on the same motor as the high-pressure pump.

Unlike conventional desalinators, which require expensive and invasive installation, Rainman portable desalinators arrive ready to generate fresh water and can operate from the deck of your boat, similar to a portable electric generator.  If you do prefer an installed system, the Rainman allows for a simple two-box installation process.

Rainman Desalination, located and manufactured in Sydney, is actively managing and expanding an international dealer network. More at Rainman Desalination, see www.rainmandesal.com.
