There’s a new king of the Aussie-made bowriders. The former champ, the Quintrex Cruiseabout, has made way for a newcomer to the best-seller ranks, the Quintrex Freestyler.
Gold Coast-based boat-builder Telwater, which makes Quintrex products, has revealed the Quintrex Freestyler has overtaken the Cruiseabout to take the title of the nation’s favourite lifestyle-focussed, family friendly boat.
“Up until now, the Quintrex Cruiseabout was Australia’s best-selling bowrider, and has been for over five years,” Quintrex Boats national sales manager Drew Jackson said. “Today, the Quintrex Freestyler, sporting the Apex hull, has officially surpassed sales of the ever-so-popular Cruiseabout.”
The Apex hull, with its flared bow and sharp chines, helps the Freestyler lay claim to the title as the driest bowrider on the market.
“When underway, the Apex hull has a sharp entry for predictable and comfortable handling,” Quintrex said. “Once the water has been pierced by the keel, water will deflect across the flared bow until it hits the chine when it gets deflected downwards, providing a cushion in rough seas.”
The Apex hull is a big step away from regular vee monohulls. At first glance the forked bow shape is the standout feature, but upon closer inspection the chines rise up to the forked deck line at the bow, instead of finishing at the stem.
The hull, introduced in 2017, brings big benefits above the waterline. Its forked bow – which carries the wide beam all the way forward – creates significantly more internal space enabling Quintrex to include a larger seating area in the Freestyler bowriders, and a bigger casting deck in Quintex Frontier fishing rigs.
The introduction of a multimillion-dollar aluminium stretch former makes Quintrex the only Australian boat manufacturer capable of building the hull.
