Quintrex adds 'stealth mode' Rotax outboard engines

The first Quintrex model confirmed to feature the new Rotax “stealth technology” engine will be the Quintrex Freestyler bowrider.
The boat, which appears to feature a completely redesigned transom, will feature a 115hp or 150hp Rotax outboard engine hidden beneath a topdeck-level transom platform.
According to Bombardier Recreational Products, the Canada-based owner of the Quintrex brand and the former maker of the Evinrude range of two-stroke outboard engines that suddenly disappeared from the market, the new engines deliver “the same advantages of a traditional outboard engine — such as price, performance, handling, ease of maintenance, and full trim — with additional benefits: it's hidden, it's quiet and it's efficient”.
“Partially submerged underwater, hidden under the boat, the engine is smooth and quiet at any speed,” BRP said.
“It doesn't block the way at the stern and therefore frees up valuable space. The Rotax outboard engine is also efficient, allowing for up to 20 per cent improved fuel efficiency compared to traditional outboard engines.
“What's more, it is the cleanest combustion outboard engine in its class, with a 12 per cent reduction in reportable emissions, and a 98 per cent reduction in carbon monoxide at idle compared to leading outboard engine brands.”
According to BRP, the new Quintrex boats have been crafted for "an unrivalled experience that will wow boaters and their families".
Quintrex was asked for comment. The announcement was made minutes ago at the annual CLUB BRP event that showcases new and evolving models to dealers worldwide, including Quintrex.
Evinrude engines reborn?
No details about the new engines have been released, although the engine performance band does point to the Rotax engines using the same high-horsepower two-stroke engine technology as developed for Evinrude's three-cylinder outboard engine range that was released only months before it was unexpectedly yanked off the market.
"The iconic Quintrex Freestyler has been completely modernised to revolutionise the boating experience and appeal to a wider base of families in Australia," BRP said in a statement announcing the Rotax engine technology.
"Building on Quintrex's rich reputation of quality and performance, BRP has designed the new Freestyler X models for those looking for a more recreational aluminum boat.
"All the functions and features boaters already know, love and expect are still offered, but with added comfort, a unique layout, high-end construction materials, refined interior treatments, and standout new colour schemes.
Three 'stealth mode' Freestylers available
BRP said the new Quintrex Freestyler X would be offered in three configurations with the Rotax outboard engine: a 595 version producing 150 hp, and a new 555 version with 115hp or 150hp.
"The new stealth technology of the Rotax engine allows to drastically increase the usable space on board, and enables the MAX Deck platform which unlocks exciting new possibilities to enjoy recreation activities at the stern," it said.
"Storage has been optimised throughout to make the entire onboard experience more convenient.
Australia's favourite aluminum (sic) boat is poised to continue to be at the forefront of innovation and consumers' expectations."
