Quick mc² Gyro Stabilizer has big claims

The revolutionary Italian mc² Gyro Stabiliser will debut at Sanctuary Cove boat show

Set to turn gyroscopic stabilisation on its head, the new mc² is a revolutionary Italian gyro solution with some big claims over conventional water-cooled gyros.

Launched by established Italian nautical-equipment manufacturer Quick at the London Boat show in January 2017, the new breed of gyro will be on display at the 2017 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Developed over the past three years, the new technology uses a unique vertical spinning mass as opposed to the horizontal spinning mass for some big gains.

Besides being smaller, simpler and smarter than conventional gyros, the mc² costs some 20 per cent less than its competitors. Ease of installation and lower maintenance are other big attractions.

The Italian Quick gyro solution removes the need for plumbing, highly specialised bearings that require high-pressure chilled-water cooling, regular maintenance intervals, and potentially expensive internal consumables including sacrificial anodes.

The low-maintenance, low-friction, less-complex gyro can simply be fitted in situ and connected to a 220-240V AC generator.

When installed as multiple smaller units, the gyro can be dropped into just about any existing engine room while the boat in the water and without any need to cut fibreglass, run plumbing and modify the boat.

Quick says its patented vertical spinning gyros give up to 85 per cent roll reduction using models for vessels from as little as 5t displacement up to 80t.

At the time of writing, Quick is said to have some 40 units installed around the globe, with 50 units currently in production at the factory in Italy.

Local distributors Gineico will have a mc² 20t Gyro Stabilizer unit at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, along with supporting information and data for local boating installations and applications.

Gineico says a 33t Quick gyro will be fitted to Maritimo's new M59 #2, creating an interesting comparison to M59 #1 with a SeaKeeper. The RRP of this 33t unit was around $107k sans the simple installation.
