The new V48 (pictured) -- the first Princess sports yacht ever with the Volvo IPS engines and pod-drive system -- was launched in the UK in May. Now the UK boat builder has announced an Open variant for those who "want the simplicity of IPS with a true open-boating experience."
The new boat, as per the last photo above, has no aft-saloon bulkhead but opens into the cockpit where there's a different seating arrangement including Euro-style aft sunpad.
The V48 Open is said to have a spacious open cockpit with generous seating around a teak table, creating the perfect space to enjoy life on deck. There is a further J-shaped seat forward, adjacent the twin helm seats providing companion seating when underway.
An electrically operated sliding sun roof provides versatility to enjoy the complete open-boating experience, says Princess. Aft of the cockpit is a large sunbed positioned above the tender garage that can accommodate a 3.25m jet RIB.
Like her sister ship. the V48 Open’s resin-infused hull is designed to quicken the transition to plane, improve efficiency, deliver outstanding performance and handling, claims Princess.
Combined with the Volvo IPS joystick control, the V48 Open is said to be both a highly capable bluewater sports yacht and nimble boat at close quarters.
Below decks, the V48 Open provides accommodation for up to six guests. There is a full beam owner’s stateroom amidships -- thanks to the rear-mounted engines with IPS drives -- a forward guest cabin with an optional scissor-berth system to create a double or twin beds, and a third cabin.
The generous saloon seating can be converted to provide additional sleeping space for occasional guests.
The Princess V48 Open will make her international debut at the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes, September 10-15, 2013, where she suits the Med' top-down way of cruising. Princess has always had an Open or two for this market.
But the V48 with saloon bulkhead is destined to be a more popular model here following her launch at a special Princess function in Sydney next month. The boat will be displayed alongside a Princess 56, 52 , V39, V57, V52 , V85s, Princess 82 MY at the Grant Torrens International Marine Luxury Lifestyle Display at the Princess office at Rose Bay Marina from August 1-10.
