Described as sleek, dynamic and exceptionally spacious, the new Princess V48 has been designed as a highly versatile sports yacht that delivers excitement and comfort in equal measure.
Looking at the virtual model in the new virtual video (below), the V48 flaunts classic Princess lines and DNA, while the deep hull conceals great volume and therefore generous accommodation. A nice size sports yacht and entertainer for a couple to command, the new V48 is destined to be a popular new model in Australia.
The lightweight, resin-infused hull will quicken the transition to planing speeds, says the UK boat builder, and therefore improve efficiency. Performance is said to be both assured and exhilarating with projections of 32-34 knot top speeds. A slight bit of reverse sheer in the bow and unobtrusive windscreen mullions will maximise vision.
But the V48 is equally competent at low speeds thanks the latest Volvo IPS 600s with pod-drive system and standard-issue joystick that will make even the tightest of marina manoeuvres a simple and relaxed operation. And the sub-cockpit engine location, well aft, could well make this is a class leader in terms of low operating noise.
The main deck is enclosed and features a spacious saloon with solid electric sunroof and air-con to provide a wonderful escape from the heat of the day. This area can be transformed for true ‘open boating’ very simply via the large powered roof and triple sliding doors that connect with the cockpit.
The bathing platform has been configured to be large enough to tote a tender and can be fitted with a raise/lower mechanism making water sports easily accessible. The bow features a recessed sun pad and the cockpit an expansive sun lounge.
Below decks, the lower saloon provides a more intimate haven in which to relax and is located adjacent to the galley, which has been equipped to provide everything needed for an extended stay on board. There’s a choice of finishes, but the combination of light oak and contrasting dark leather with solid counters on the virtual boat, at least, looks very smart.
The aim of the two large en-suite cabins is to provide sumptuous accommodation, with a vast and exceptionally light owner’s stateroom amidships, Princess boasts. The full-beam stateroom is flanked by large windows, a settee and inbuilt drawer unit to boost the hanging locker storage.
The forward guest cabin has the option of a scissor-berth system to create a double or twin beds as required.
The new V48 is a prettier boat on paper or CAD compared with the previous V48 (production run ended 2008). And the new sports yacht slots nicely between the impressive and that we’ve previously tested on our sites.
A new V48 has been ordered by Princess Yachts Australia and will be displayed at this year's Sydney International Boat Show in August. The boat is priced from about $1.1 million and typically around $1.2 million as a loaded, luxury drive away conveyance. See the new virtual tour of the V48 at the foot of this preview.
