Bound for the Gold Coast, the first sub-40 foot Princess will debut at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May. The all-new V39 is powered by a pair of Volvo Penta common-rail, supercharged D6 330hp inboard diesel engines with Aquamatic sterndrives and Duoprops.
According to Princess, subsequent sea trials saw the loaded sports cruiser easily reach its performance target of 38 knots in the specification. But the design brief was always for a sporty cruiser with snappy acceleration courtesy of a deep-vee hull from Bernard Olesinski.
On paper, the V39 looks unmistakably Princess. Backed by a swim platform deep enough to lug a tender, the teak-topped cockpit boasts a wet bar with optional electric griddle, opposite a plush C-shaped lounge and separate chaise lounge to port. Twin helm seats let couples cruise together before a stylish dash.
The forward stateroom features an en-suite bathroom with communal access from the saloon, while the aft cabin can be fitted with optional sliding berths to provide easy conversion to a double when required.
The dinette, opposite an entertainment unit and galley to starboard bundled with a combination microwave/oven/grill as standard, converts to an impromptu double berth as well. Opening portlights ensure natural ventilation.
Joinery is a choice of light oak or cherry. Expect fit and finish, and the more edgy contemporary interior design, to be commensurate with the bigger luxury cruisers from Princess.
Everything including quilted bedspreads, toolkit and first-aid kit is included in the new V39 -- the last model with the same designation was released in the mid-1990s -- which Princess Australia says will retail for about $700,000 loaded with generator, air-con, electric sunroof (standard) and more.
