Casting the lines and motoring out of their marina berth in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay last week, footloose Princess motoryacht owners Robert and Rose Unger have embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime seven-month cruise north along the Eastern Seaboard, around the Cape, across the Top End, and eventually down to the Kimberley.
Starting from their home port of Sandringham Yacht Club, their 7000 mile passage will take in ports of call including Sydney (where they are now due to arrive), the Gold Coast and the Whitsunday Islands, where Robert and Rose have traditionally wintered their boats.
From there, the voyage enters its most adventurous phase as their Princess 72 Motor Yacht aptly named R&R and her professional crew negotiate Cape Tribulation and round Australia's most northerly point at Cape York, before heading west and then dropping south again for the final destination of Broome.
Robert and Rose have been loyal Princess owners since 2003, starting with a Princess 45 and moving up through the range to their current 72MY.
Having visited the Kimberley region of North Western Australia twice before by road, and then taking a trip back on a chartered vessel with friends, the boating couple were so inspired by the unspoilt natural beauty of the region that they knew they wanted to go back. But this time on their own terms and in their Princess 72MY.
