Princess 43: A new icon is born

British boatbuilder says new 43 destined for privileged life
UK prestige-boat builder Princess has announced an exciting new addition to the range, the Princess 43, which will be launching at the 2013 Southampton Boat Show next month.
For more than a decade, the Princess 42 was considered one of the most-celebrated yachts ever to be produced by the Plymouth-based shipyard and she became a benchmark for flybridge motoryachts in her class.
Benefitting from the latest technology and contemporary design, the new 43 is set to take up the baton and continue that reputation.
With a sleek exterior and an all-new light but strong resin-infused hull, which has been optimised to provide a smoother transition to plane and widen the range of planing speeds, the new 43 offers the ultimate in performance, efficiency, comfort and elegance, as well as impeccable seakeeping and handling, claims Princess.
The intelligent design of the exterior spaces provides ample opportunity to enjoy life out on deck -- upon the impressive flybridge with alfresco dining area and optional wetbar with electric barbeque, on the flexible seating forward which converts into a sun bed, and on additional seating around a folding teak table in the cockpit.
Twin transom doors lead to the bathing platform, which can be optionally specified with an electro-hydraulic raise/lower mechanism aiding the launch and recovery of the tender or transforming the area into a submersible 'beach'.
Sliding glass doors lead from the large cockpit to the generously proportioned, contemporary saloon. Benefiting from advances made on larger craft in the range, the new 43 features large windows in the style seen on the new Princess 52. These fill the saloon and main deck with natural light and ensure wonderful views and excellent visibility from the lower helm.
The latest infused hull and deck structures, first seen on the class-beating Princess V39, create greater internal volume in an accommodation plan that can sleep up to six guests. The flexible arrangement centres on two well-appointed en-suite cabins.
There's a beautifully finished owner’s cabin and twin guest cabin which can be optionally specified with electrically-powered sliding berths to convert to a double bed. The saloon seating can also be converted to a double berth for occasional guests. ?
The Princess 43 marks a new era, one brimming with style and technology, says the British yard. The new Princess should be a nice fit Down Under, we will add, comfortable but not a handful for owners, with fuel bulls that won't weigh heavily thanks to modest engines and a slippery hull.
Princess says merely being on board the 43 will be a true pleasure for the whole family, but turn the keys and the twin Volvo D6s in 370-435hp sizes will give 30-plus knots. A bow thruster is included in the kit that comes standard.
In case you're in London, the new 43 will be on berth M483 at the PSP Southampton Boat Show from September 13-22. We expect a 42 Flybridge to arrive in Australia in the not-too-distant future.
