Do you remember prawning in the rivers with family and friends? Want to help scientists monitor western school prawns and restock the rivers with them too?
You can now join in with other keen prawners and become a Prawn Watch volunteer. Help scientists discover why prawn numbers declined in the past and whether restocking efforts are being effective. All you need to do is tell the organisers where you’re prawning and what you’re catching.
Attend the free training evening on February 17 and you can learn all about the western school prawn from the experts. You'll also be taught how to catch and identify prawns in the river and learn how to report your catch using the new Prawn Watch App.
Meanwhile, local fisheries working with scientists have managed to release another 1.2 Million prawns into the Swan River this week with more to come.
