Victorian fishing forums, Queensland net regulations, fire destroys boats in Pittwater, forthcoming boat shows

POWERBOATS & FISHING


Anglers from across Victoria are being urged to have their say about future opportunities for recreational fishing in the State. From the end of July Fisheries Victoria will host eight Recreational Fishing Forums in Melbourne and regional centres. More details.


Restrictions apply to recreational fishing gear in Queensland, and anglers are encouraged to brush up on regulations to avoid becoming entangled. Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol District Officer Matt Davidson said regulations applied to bait and cast nets, both of which were popular with recreational fishers. NEWS BRIEFS


One person suffered smoke inhalation after two boats went up in flames at Newport Anchorage Marina on Pittwater. The blazing boats' mooring lines were cut, allowing the boats to drift away from the marina, in an attempt to stop the fire spreading to other boats. However, at least three other boats also caught fire. More details.

Aug 7 – 12 -- Inaugural Moreton Bay Classic fishing tournament, conducted by the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club. Anyone can enter the Classic, the first of its type to be held in Brisbane. The event offers the chance to win a marina berth worth $132,000, a Suzuki car, a CruiseCraft boat and heaps of cash and other prizes. More details.
