Win to Victory 1 – double podium for Maritmo, new boat series from Haines Hunter, sports model outboard on trial

In a dramatic BMW Norwegian Grand Prix, Victory 1's Jean-Marc Sanchez guided rookie driver Mohammed Al Mehairi to his first Class 1 win in just his second race at the Class-1 series in Arendal, Norway. Maritimo 11's Tom Barry-Cotter and Pal Virik Nilsen were rewarded for their stunning opening lap with second place, to take their first Class 1 podium finish, with team-mates Giorgio Manuzzi and Peter McGrath, taking their first podium in third place. Qatar 96's race ended in spectacular fashion, barrel-rolling on lap seven. More here.


Haines Hunter officially unveiled its new Profish Series at the 2009 Melbourne Boat Show. Designed specifically for anglers, the series of fibreglass fishing boats comprises seven models ranging 4.7 to 6.7 metres. More here.


The first of Yamaha's new sports model outboards is on trial in Australia. The F225C has been fitted to the transom of a 2009 model Bullet 1850 ski race boat, owned and raced by ski race veteran Chris Williams on the Gold Coast. More here.


Yanmar marine diesel engines have been used to power a Brisbane built ferry destined for tourist work in New Caledonia. Dual Yanmar 6HYM-ETE engines, each rated at 650 MHP, are mated to ZF transmissions in the all-alloy sea going catamaran hull. More here.


Lowrance will launch its next-generation sonar technology, the LSS-1 StructureScan sonar-imaging module, in Australia at this month's Sydney International Boat Show. Available to consumers later this year, the sonar-imaging module is the world's first to offer anglers a new dimension in underwater picture-like displays – side-to-side plus straight down, full panoramic viewing. Perth 2011 is calling for volunteers for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships to be held in Fremantle from 3 - 18 December 2011. Details here.


A trawler and yacht collided nine kilometres north of Yamba on the NSW North Coast, with damage to both vessels but no injuries. More details here.


Boating safety will be the focus of an interactive exhibition by NSW Maritime at the 2009 Sydney International Boat Show. More here.


Justin Jones and James Castrission, the two daring young adventurers who rowed from NSW to New Zealand aboard a seemingly flimsy kayak, will release a new DVD and book and give talks at the Sydney International Boat Show. More here.

A revitalised five-member Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) will renew its commitment to giving the Australian marine industry a strong national voice when it meets in Sydney on 30 July. More here.
