Pittwater Festival 2015: Riviera Parade

Boating celebrations on Sydney’s premier waterway continue this weekend

Pittwater and boating goes together like a carvel plank and a brass screw. Little wonder, then, that this weekend’s namesake Festival promises a raft of great events for the boating community.

Hosted by the Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay (RMYCBB), the Pittwater Festival has included the Broken Bay Game Fishing Tournament last weekend and the Classic Yacht Regatta the weekend prior to that. There have been kids’ fishing, ladies’ driving and boatowner parties, too

But this weekend is the “35 Years of Riviera Parade,” an historically important event given that the forerunners to Riviera, Mariner Cruisers, were built in Mona Vale. Both brands (first-ever Riviera, a 38 Mk 1, pictured second above) are omnipresent on Pittwater today and a parade is another great fit for the waterway.

Mark Riley from R Marine Riley says about 20 Rivieras from the 3000 Offshore to the current 61 Enclosed Flybridge will be parading about Pittwater. It’s not too late to enter. Contact R Marine Riley on (02) 9979 7000 and the RMYC on (02) 9979 5511 for event details.

This Sunday is the Stand Up Paddle Board Expo, a relatively new event that’s fast turning into one of the most popular in the Pittwater Festival, say the promoters. The main gig is a five-nautical-mile race around Scotland Island followed by the time trials back at the RMYC. For those wanting to try SUP, facilities are on hand to do just that.

The Pittwater Festival concludes next weekend with the Surf Life Saving, Surf Boat Shoot Out. Crews from 15 Northern Beaches Surf Live Saving Clubs will race the clock. Details under Events at http://www.royalmotor.com.au
