Pirtek Fishing Challenge 2014

Fight a fish to fight prostate cancer and win a Stacer 489 Outlaw

The annual Pirtek Fishing Challenge is a one-day competition to be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014, between the hours of 6.00 am and 6.00 pm. Target species will be revealed on Saturday, March 1 at 12 noon via the website to give competitors plenty of time to plan their fishing trip.

Each angler number and a repeat list of the target species will be revealed on Saturday, March 22, 2014 via the website and email. Take a look at the videos on this website for full instructions on photographing your fish and catch and release techniques.

Remember the idea is to grab the family or a couple of mates for the day, have a great time fishing and raise a few dollars for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia -- and hopefully some big prizes for yourself! Let’s fight a fish to fight prostate cancer, says organiser Michael Guest.

Since 2009 Pirtek has hosted Australia’s biggest national fishing competition. It’s open to everyone – mums, dads, kids and grandparents! Registration costs, plus $5.95 postage and handling. All proceeds go directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and organisers send you a limited edition Pirtek Fishing Challenge cap and brag mat.

Prostate cancer accounts for approximately 30 per cent of cancers diagnosed each year in Australian men. It is the second most-common cause of cancer death, after lung cancer. It has been estimated that around 120,000 Australian men are living with prostate cancer, and it is predicted that the number will increase to 267,000 by 2017. Which is why Pirtek, for the sixth year running, has partnered with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to increase awareness of prostate cancer in the community and also raise much needed funds.

"We’re offering fantastic prizes for you to win. There are 21 target species nationally with three prize packs per species, plus a cash prize if you catch the ‘Mystery Length’ fish in your category. Junior anglers (under 16) don’t miss out either with BCF gift vouchers for first and second," says Guest.

But even if you don’t catch the biggest fish (or any fish at all), just by entering you’re in the draw to win one of the ‘On The Water’ prizes -- a Stacer 489 Outlaw side console boat with Evinrude E-TEC Outboard and trailer (valued at $33,165), a Lowrance HDS Generation 2 electronics package (valued at $2299), a Berkley fishing tackle pack (valued up to $2000), or an $1800 BCF spending spree.

You could even spend the day fishing with ET and Guesty on Lake Macquarie. Your may be part of an upcoming episode of ‘Escape with ET’. All your fishing gear is included, we’ll fly you from your closest capital city to Newcastle, and you’ll spend two nights at Rafferty’s Resort.

And finally, you can show your support for the Challenge with a Pirtek Fishing Challenge fishing shirt. Altogether, the prize pool is worth a massive $155,000. Full competition details at https://pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au/welcome/
