Perth boat show success

Stunning sales figures in the west

Luxury boats made a comeback in Perth as buyers attending the Perth boat show opened their wallets and shrugged off any lingering economic woes.

Dealers at the show, which ended on Sunday, were inundated with buyers ranging from stock market speculators to mining executives all of whom wanted to prepare for summer.

Dozens of boats, each worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, were reported to have been sold during the five day marine exhibition.

Avante Marine managing director Maurits Hayim told The Australian newspaper he had sold two boats worth $695,000 and $500,000 and was close to closing the deal on a third worth $1,000,000.

Custom boat builder Scott Fury sold two of his unique 28-foot convertible cruisers at $190,000 each.

"It's a pretty positive outlook," Fury says, "The interest has been very good."

Geoff Ellis from Offshore Marine says the turnaround from last year was huge.

"Last year everybody was saying the R-word or talking about superannuation but I have not heard it once this week.

"Everybody has a smile on their face. They are just starting to release the purse strings," stated Mr Ellis.
