Steve Shaw from PowerCat Marine said the PartyCat will be operated in HK by local businessman Andrew Kay as an upmarket ferry service, with pickup points in the city to the various beach and island resorts around HK Harbour.
Kay currently runs an Australian-made Seawind 1040 power catamaran and expansion plans include another three PartyCats, including a bigger version of the 7.6m, on top of the one delivered.
"There are some other HK operators looking at the PartyCat, too. They like the side and front access of this boat which is ideal for beach landings," said Shaw.
"It's a dayboat with a luxury fitout and surveyed to take 20 people. The PartyCat is self-sufficient for day use and has an enclosed head and a dinette for lunch," he adds.
The 7.6m PartyCat Water Taxi has a beam of 2.6m and a draft of 0.9m. The boat is powered by a pair of 140hp Suzuki outboards, which provide a cruising speed of 24kts. Shaw said a similar PartyCat produced a top speed of around 40kts carrying six passengers and a "ton of weight".
We are told Kay purchased the PartyCat Water Taxi for $160,000 and being an export item it is GST exempt.
