The latest and greatest from Mercury Racing and Evinrude’s new generation of three-cylinder outboard engines are locked in for 2019 Sydney International Boat Show reveals.
Mercury Racing has confirmed it will have its ballistic Mercury Racing 450R on show, a new range-topping performance powerhouse featuring a supercharged 4.6-litre V8 block honed for performance.

The engine is not due on sale in Australia until early to mid next year. Stocks of the new engine will be limited, Mercury Australia has warned.
The new engine is "near the same weight" as the supercharged V6 Mercury Racing 400R, produces 40 per cent more torque than the 400R, and in the US will produce its performance on unleaded fuel. In Australia, peak performance will come from using 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
It uses a water-cooled 2.4-litre belt-driven twin-screw supercharger that Mercury Racing claims has no low-down lag and “instant throttle response”.
The new Mercury Racing outboard engine’s torque curve starts to flatten out from 2000rpm, building to its peak at 4500rpm. The supercharger allows Mercury racing to build an engine it claims is more than 130kg lighter than its nearest rival.
Meanwhile, Evinrude is expected to release the Australian details for its new range of 115-150hp direct-injection two-stroke three-cylinder G2 E-TEC outboard engine range revealed recently in the US.
The engines available in the US range from the 115 HO, the 140hp and 150hp and are built with an emphasis on lightness, fuel economy and stress-free servicing.
The three new outboard engines share a 1.9-litre three-cylinder block that produces more torque and better fuel economy at lower revs than their competitors.
It’s also the first time that a triple-cylinder outboard engine has produced 150hp.
Extra features for the new engines that are yet to be confirmed for Australia include a five-year corrosion warranty, premium controls and gauges, as well as a tiller option that features “touch troll” and trim switches, LEDs for basic diagnostics and an NMEA 2000 connection for integration with external gauges and accessories.
