
Opera Australia is taking to the water, announcing it will host a production of Carmen at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island next year with space set aside for boats.
The opera, scheduled for November next year, will allow boat owners to book a private mooring to watch the production from the comfort of their cockpit or flybridge.
Carmen will be one of two outdoor productions planned for next year, with
slated to appear at Opera Australia’s over-water stage at Mrs Macquaries Point on Sydney Harbour.Opera Australia said the production of Carmen would be “an experience like no other in the world”.
“Carmen on Cockatoo Island is an exciting new and innovative event that will capitalise on Sydney’s glorious weather and outdoor lifestyle when it premieres in November 2022,” it said.
“Guests can either book seats on the island and enjoy an array of dining and drinking options on offer or, in a world-first for opera, book a mooring for their own boat and watch the live performance projected onto a big screen.”
Carmen on Cockatoo Island will run from November 25 to December 18, 2022. Tickets for the event go on sale in November this year, with a waitlist available.
