Ocean racer of the Year

Nominations open

Yacht clubs around the country have been invited to nominate suitable members for the prestigious Ocean Racer of the Year Awards which will be announced on Wednesday, December 14, at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Sydney.


The categories for the awards are: Ocean Racing Yachtsman of the Year; Sally Gordon Memorial Trophy for the Ocean Crewperson of the Year; Ocean Veteran of the year, Ocean Rookie of the Year; and Ocean Navigator of the Year.


Nominations close on Friday, November 14, and should be forwarded to the CYCA.


Commodore of the CYCA, Garry Linacre, has encouraged the commodores of fellow offshore racing clubs and yacht owners to nominate eligible individuals.


Since its inception in 1985, the Ocean Racer of the Year award has gone to many notable Australian sailors including Tasmanian Don Calvert, Victorians Gino Knezic and Lou Abrahams, South Australian Kevan Pearce and NSW yachtsmen Syd Fischer, Roger Hickman, Geoff Ross, Matt Allen, Bob Thomas and Ed Psaltis. Fischer has won four times and Allen and Psaltis twice each.
