Ocean Alexander’s 40th anniversary present to the world, the Ocean Alexander 88 Skylounge, will arrive soon as the luxury motor yacht maker’s star for the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
The 40th anniversary limited edition has similar accommodation to the four-stateroom, two-crew cabin layout of the Ocean Alexander 85 on which the 88 is based. However, it brings a larger galley and forward settee lounge area, as well as the namesake Skylounge – a glass-enclosed all-weather living and entertaining salon that increases living space on board by around 20 percent.
“Ideally configured for the Australian boating lifestyle, the OA88 Skylounge redefines the motor yacht concept, combining classic semi-displacement hull design with contemporary elegance,” Ocean Alexander said in a statement.
The OA88 Skylounge uses cutting-edge technology in its build process, including aerospace grade aluminium beams and carbon-fibre structural reinforcement. Adding discerning taste, it also incorporates high-end custom fabrics throughout, all complemented by a timeless classic walnut interior.
The OA88 Skylounge model is also equipped with a lowering swim platform and a jacuzzi on the top deck.
“The OA88 displays the hallmarks of all Ocean Alexander yachts: the highest quality throughout – no compromises on engineering and seakeeping ability, while each yacht is constructed with an oversized drivetrain, rudders and general structure,” Ocean Alexander president Johnny Chueh said.
Todd Holzapfel, a director at Alexander Marine Australia – Ocean Alexander’s Australian dealer – said the OA88 was “ideally suited” to Australia.
“There’s no doubt the OA88 Skylounge will be equally at home in Sydney Harbour as it is cruising the east coast to the Whitsundays, and with several generously sized spaces dedicated to socialising including the massive skylounge, the 88 Skylounge is the ideal entertainer,” Holzapfel said
“It’s a true superyacht, yet with the joystick control, easily managed by an owner-operator.”
The Ocean Alexander 88 Skylounge uses twin 1600hp MTU engines connected to a joystick controller to help with low-speed manouvering. The motor yacht includes the Glendinning Stationkeeper position and heading hold system, and remains stable at rest using the Side Power curved fins – a pair of massive stabilisers that can move through up to a 70-degree arc to minimise roll.
