Sport Fly Fishing NZ will host the prestigious World Fly Fishing Tournament in March, where more than 100 anglers representing 20 countries are expected.
Transporting all those fishermen to various locations necessitates having the right boats - 20 Stabi-Craft 389 Frontiers in fact, said organisers.
The fleet, powered by Yamaha engines, will be tasked with putting competitors and officials on the water for the tournament. Based in Rotorua from March 24 to 28, fishing will take place on a variety of North Island lakes and rivers.
Tournament boat manager, John Murphy, said some lakes in the area were notorious for cutting up rough.
"It can get quite dangerous - we've had boats swamped in the past," said Murphy.
"Safety is paramount and with our fleet of Stabi-Craft boats we know competitors will have a stable platform to both fish from and bring them home - whatever the weather throws at us.
"We want to showcase NZ innovation and Stabi-Craft are unique in the world for producing a really robust and safe boat like this," Murphy said.
Stabi-Craft Marine NZ sales manager, Sean McColl, said the boats were a perfect match for the tournament.
"Our innovative stability allows us to compete successfully on the world stage - and now these fly fishing competitors can do the same," said McColl.
"And being Southland-built, hopefully it will spark their interest and they'll venture south to experience the world famous fly fishing our province has to offer," he said.
