The countdown is on to the inaugural Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show, which will be held at the Marrara Stadium in September this year.
Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries Willem Westra van Holthe made the announcement recently and said the show will be a major event on the Territory’s calendar.
"The Country Liberals Government is proud to provide financial assistance for this event, to ensure its first year is a success," the Minister said.
"An outdoor lifestyle is an integral part of our way of life in the Territory and this event will offer a one-stop shop for fishing, travel and outdoor needs.
"The Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show will showcase all that the Top End has to offer to both locals and tourists," he added.
The Northern Territory Government will provide $20,000 in assistance, through the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries, the Department of Business and the Department of Transport.
Darwin Game Fishing Club will co-ordinate the new event, which will fill the void left when the Darwin Boat and Outdoor Show was cancelled in 2013.
"Anglers I have talked to have expressed their disappointment that there was no Boat Show in 2014 and we thought if we could combine it with travel and leisure, we would be reinvigorating an iconic event that Territorians love," Darwin Game Fishing Club President Steve Roberts said.
"The Darwin Game Fishing Club is renowned for running the popular NT Barra Classic and NT Billfish Classic tournaments and we know we can make a success of the Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show."
The event will take place on the Father’s Day weekend, September 5-6.
