This year, Northside Marine celebrates 50 great years, and what a journey it has been for the Nickerson Family who started what has evolved into one of the largest marine dealerships in Australia.
Starting from humble beginnings in 1965, Keith and Marlene Nickerson opened a 30sqm store in Kift Street, Deagon to provide boating parts for local north Brisbane boaties.
A year later they took on their first outboard brand, Johnson Outboards, which they continued selling for many years. The progression into selling boats and motors was a logical path as Keith had been sailing and power boating in the local area for a number of years.
Over the years Northside has cherished their long-term relationship with many marques. Companies such Malibu, Glastron, Stabicraft and Surtees, have now joined Whittley Cruisers (30 years), Club Marine (30 years), Stacer (20 years), and Yamaha Outboards (10 years) at Northside.
While there have been some brand changes, the one thing hasn’t changed is that it’s still under the Nickerson Family control. Now, under Greg and Trish Nickerson, Northside Marine is located on a purpose built 10,000sqm dealership only 20 minutes north of the Brisbane CBD in Boondall, QLD.
To celebrate this milestone the Northside Marine 50th Anniversary Festival was held in July at the dealership at 2294 Sandgate Road, Boondall.
Northside partnered with the charity, Camp Quality (Supporting Kids with Cancer), to sell limited edition Northside Marine 50th Anniversary/Camp Quality Fishing Shirts (pictured with model) with 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of these shirts going to this great organisation.
Given its track record, Northside is surely set for another 50 years of servicing the local Brisbane boating fraternity. A good-news story indeed. More at www.northsidemarine.com.au.
