Northshore 340

The Australian-built Northshore 340 is designed as a pleasure cruiser and performance racing yacht around the buoys, and is an ideal introduction to keelboats

Launched in 1997, the Northshore 34 supersedes the Northshore 33. With a waterline length of 9.14m, it has a newly-designed deep rudder which gives the vessel inherent tracking ability, Jason Rowed from the Sydney Yachting Centre says.

The aluminium fractional rig ensures maximum control, allowing the 340 to sail to its potential with a minimum of sails. The mast is a single spreader, deck-stepped with an adjustable backstay.

The basic sail inventory includes a Dacron main and Dacron No 3 furling headsail, however provision has been made for owners who want to expand the wardrobe. With a total sail area of 46.7sqm, the yacht is designed to be sailed shorthanded.

The solid GRP-hulled craft also features a GRP deck, rudder and internal mouldings. The aluminium gunwale is incorporated into the moulding.

Another new addition to the Northshore 340 is a walk-through transom with a stainless steel boarding ladder as an option.

The spacious cockpit can be optioned with a portable teak cockpit table forward of the steering position. A built-in shower is fitted as standard. There is a locker aft and a larger storage area on the starboard aft side, along with a forward storage port locker.

The interior is finished with teak panelling, solid teak trim and laminates to give a warm and luxurious feel to the cruiser, the maker says.

At the base of the companionway and opposite the double berth stateroom is a skipper's chart table and seat. Aft of this is a quarter berth which can be used as an optional storage area.

Forward of the chart table is an icebox, followed by the L-shaped galley. Features for the gourmet include a stove/oven, stainless sink with pressure hot and cold water and storage space. The enclosed head is located opposite the galley, and is fitted with toilet, washbasin and shower.

The saloon is fitted with a straight settee berth to port and an L-shaped settee to starboard which both wrap around the centrally-located teak drop leaf dinette table.

In the bow a second double vee berth offers the same level of accommodation as the aft cabin.

Storage is provided under the berths and in deep shelves which extend down both sides of the vessel's interior.

The Northshore 340 is powered by a 21hp Nanni diesel with saildrive leg and fixed three-blade propeller.
