Claimed to be specifically formulated to provide longer catalyst component life, this fully synthetic 20W-40 engine oil also provides improved engine protection and maximum performance.
So, not only is it factory recommended for emission controlled catalyst engines, it is also recommended for all MerCruiser petrol engines, says Mercury.
Catalysed marine engines have different lubrication requirements to other marine engines. The high phosphorous levels in some marine grade lubricants can badly damage catalyst systems it said, meaning that over time they will compromise the catalyst itself leading to premature failure and expensive replacement.
Mercury says its MerCruiser 20W-40 engine oil has a specialised low-phosphorous formulation, protecting the engine as a whole while ensuring longer catalyst component life.
The oil is a blend of three distinct synthetic base stocks, which Mercury says provides both standard and catalytic marine engines with: superior wear protection and lubrication of critical parts; extreme saltwater and freshwater rust protection; reduced oil consumption and better circulation; and, greater stability with high viscosity which prevents dirt and soot settling on metal surfaces.
