Quintrex has relaunched the Yellowfin range of offshore plate boats with new construction, new design and a new identity.
At a media launch on the Sunshine Coast this week, boatsales and BoatPoint really got the put the new Yellowfins through their paces on a blustery and lumpy day off Mooloolaba.
The new range consists of eight new models: 5800, 6200, 6700 and 7400 all available with either a hard top or a soft top.
The new boats come in range of solid colours, which Quintrex’s Cameron Wood says makes them easily identifiable. The colours are metallic grey, navy blue, burgundy, black and white.
"The colours make them stand apart from other boats," said Wood. "And the new YF logo with model identification and stripes tells everyone they’re Yellowfin plate boats," he added.
CONSTRUCTION
The new boats feature different construction from previous Yellowfins in that the 6200, 6700 and 7400 now feature 6mm bottom sheets (5mm for the 5800), 5mm transom material and 4mm side sheets.
A new hull design including a variable deadrise to 19 degrees at the transom and more freeboard allows the boats to tackle tougher offshore conditions, as we found out.
Construction-wise the new boats feature a fully welded checker-plate floor with box-section floor frame offering extra stiffness and strength.
The so-called Marine Core construction ensures that strength really does come from within with a sub-frame structure of longitudinal and lateral ribs made of 6mm vertical stringers and 5mm horizontal ribs.
The self-draining floor features a non-return scupper system whereby a rear catchment area guides water out to a lower chamber to drain out through the scuppers so you don’t need to rely so much on a bilge pump.
The newly-designed transom extends the waterline length giving more lift and offering more stability and buoyancy. The new transom also allows for larger outboards in both power and weight.
The engine sits further back on the transom which frees up space on the duckboard with plenty of room to move about and easy access to the (standard) berley bucket.
The range has basic flotation using higher-density EPE foam which is fuel and oil resistant.
FISHY FEATURES
The new models are well equipped for fishing straight off the showroom floor with standard features like 16 rod holders, built-in live-bait tank, 110-litre kill tank, bait station, deck wash, aforementioned berley bucket, and more.
All models are fitted with hydraulic steering and Volvo Penta BTS 300 trim tabs.
The new cabin design features 2.0-metre bunks in all models bar the 5800, which has 1.7-metre bunks. The Hard Top versions have 6mm toughen glass windscreens and a washer/wiper for the skipper.
All models can be optioned up from a long list of extras including drum winch, LED light kit, stereo, coolers, extra storage and cabin bunk infill.
Cameron Wood said he is expecting strong sales from the new range.
"The new look and features make the Yellowfin top of its class among competitor brands and I am confident sales will skyrocket after the release of the new models," he said.
Wood said that the boats had been shown to the dealers and they were very enthusiastic: "There is so much excitement about the new range among our Quintrex dealer network, Yellowfin will definitely be a big player at this year’s boat shows."
Pricing for the Yellowfin range starts at a very reasonable $57,636 for a 5800 in standard form with a 115hp E-Tec and range up to $71,628 for the 7400 with a 130hp E-Tec.
