Yamaha has boosted its hot V MAX SHO family, with the release of the new V MAX SHO 90 — the smallest of the SHO models including the 115, 150, 175 and 200, but the strongest of all the 90-horsepower outboards on the market, with claims of class-leading torque and top speed.
Ben Speciale, President, Yamaha Marine Group in the US, said the new VF90 would be a great choice for inshore and multi-species boats. Think bass, barra and bream in Aussie waters.
“The new V MAX SHO 90 is the perfect power solution for boaters looking to replace an older two-stroke 90-horsepower outboard with the clean, quiet efficiency of a four-stroke,” said Speciale.
Yamaha says its VF90 leads the 90-horsepower class in torque and top speed. Unlike the VF115 with DOHC, the 90 has single overhead camshaft drivign four valves per cylinder, delivering more power from less weight, the Japanese engine maker adds.
The VF90 is also said to be quiet for better fishing experiences. Yamaha propellers with the Shift Dampener System, such as the Talon SS4 SDS propeller, will make the new 90 even more quiet bumping in and out of gear when, say, jumping snags or trolling.
For more convenience and control, the V MAX SHO 90 is compatible with Yamaha’s variable trolling RPM switch (VTS) for slow trolling. The outboard is also Y-COP compatible for increased theft protection (key fob immobilisation).
Yamaha adds that because it is a four-stroke, the V MAX SHO 90 does not need an oil tank, which means more space for storage or batteries.
In addition, the all-new V MAX SHO 90 can be rigged for use with Yamaha’s impressive multifunction tiller handle. Other features include a full 35 amps of alternator power and a long-span mounting system for less vibration.
The new Yamaha V MAX SHO 90 was on display to the public for the first time during the recent 2018 Chicago and Minneapolis boat shows. Yamaha Australia will have news of the local release soon.
